TT Update – Conrad’s great form continues
Conrad Moss just keeps getting faster and faster – now he’s set a new Mid-Devon club 25-mile time trial record.
In a week when the super-fit veteran clinched his 10th victory of the season, at a 10-mile event in East Devon, Moss then travelled back to South Wales to tackle the Blaenau Gwent ’25’ on a course between Usk and Monmouth.
He had covered the same distance in 50min 3sec at Ogmore a fortnight ago.
But this time Moss lowered his PB and the club record to 49.26.
In a high-quality field, Moss finished third behind the flying Kieron Davies of the North Bristol club, who rode an outstanding 47.31, and only six seconds slower than runner-up Matt Burden of the Severn Racing Club.
In fourth place was Rob Pears of Procycling Magazine, who was sixth in last year’s national championships. He recorded 50.23.
“It was a quiet course with a great road surface and, with the field that was there, I thought a top-six place would be a decent result,” said Moss.
“I sniffed the air beforehand, looked at the flags and predicted a ‘long 50 minutes’ for me.
“So I’m really chuffed with 49.26.
“I am starting to go quicker on slower courses and without favourable weather conditions, so I’m hopeful that there is more to come.
“Training is going well, and I just need to keep the little injuries under control.”
Mid-Devon club-mate Ian Deakin also recorded a season’s-best 57.19.
In the Sid Valley 10 at Honiton last week Moss retained the trophy he won last year with a time of 21.02 in windy conditions which helped out on the outward leg but turned the return into a real slog.
The time wasn’t particularly quick for Moss, but it was well clear of runner-up Jack Salvidge, a junior from Exeter Wheelers, in 22.10, while Tavistock Wheelers’ Gavin McDougall was 70 seconds away in third.
Other Mid-Devon times: 6 Lee Sanderson 22.42, 8 Ian Cullen 22.57, 12 Mark Sanders 23.23, 16 Mike Gratton 23.42, 19 Kevin Weymouth 24.02, 20 Harry Loader 24.13, 22 Ian Deakin 24.27, 31 Dominic Start 26.15, 33 Francis McBride 27.34.
