Race Report – SAW 25 Time Trial
Sunday morning saw the SAW 25 run off in appalling conditions on the A30. It was touch and go as to whether the event would go ahead, as the road is susceptible to poor visibility when wet, and strong crosswinds due to the open and exposed nature of the course.
A starting line up of 91 riders included the clubs own Conrad Moss; who was making his return to racing, in the event that he had won the previous 3 years. Lee Sanderson, James Tribble and Sarah Lakey also represented the clubs interests.
The 1st rider rolled away at 0800, in light rain and windy conditions, which (as promised) got progressively worse as the morning wore on. The clubs contingent all started in the last 1/3 of the field, meaning that they endured the brunt of it. James and Lee recorded 56.59 and 57.53 for 7th and 11th respectively and Sarah a 1.14.51, but it was last man off Conrad who took top honours for the 4th time with a 53.06, describing the conditions as probably the worst he’d ever raced in, battling a brutal cross wind, soaked to the skin and freezing cold. Today was a day that saw many riders start but climb off at the turn.
His winning time was over 3 minutes short of his own course record, set in somewhat drier conditions.
