Action-packed weekend of racing MTB, Road and TT
Mid Devon cycling club riders had a busy weekend of racing, competing in the South West XC Series 2024 Round 1 at Grammarcombe woods in Ashcombe. The challenging course featured a mix of man-made and natural obstacles to test the riders’ skills, made even more difficult by heavy rain overnight and showers on race day. In the Under 14 category, Lauren Fox finished in 3rd place, while Matt Holmes and James Allen took 3rd and 4th place respectively. The Under 16 category saw Lara Dix taking first place, with Eva Fox coming in 2nd. Henry Cadwallader claimed 1st place and Bayley Woodger finished 2nd. In the Grand Vet category, Catherine Kilburn secured 2nd place, and Andy Tayler finished 8th.
At the Exeter University Early Season Circuit at Westpoint Exeter, Nick Makin impressed by breaking away to claim 2nd place, while Ben Meek finished 7th. Dexter Townsend also competed in the Hillingdon Slipstreamers race series, finishing 2nd in his second ever circuit race despite the wet and cold conditions. Additionally, Nick Makin participated in a 10-mile TT event hosted by Kernow Racing Team in south Cornwall, finishing 4th.
Next week, many of Mid Devon Youth Academy will be racing at Odd Down Bath in the Southern youth Circuit Series and at Westpoint Exeter for the South West Youth Series.
