Race Report – National TTT Champs
Sunday 5th June saw the Mid Devon CC promote the National Team Time Trial Champs on behalf of Cycling Time Trials UK. In near perfect conditions riders undertook a hilly and challenging 32 mile course at Hatherleigh
The Pedal Heaven RT trio of Lloyd Chapman, Joseph Fry and Max Steadman won the men’s title, covering the course in a time of 1:07.40
The newly-formed SSLL RT with Andy Jackson and Alastair Wareham and Jonathan Wears took second place, stopping the clock at 1:08.19, 39 seconds down on Pedal Heaven.
Team Bottrill were third with John Dewey, Jonathan Parker and Matthew Smith completing in 1:09.39.
In the Womens championships Chester Road Club’s Jill Wilkinson, Gina Riley and Rebecca Holland were crowned winners with a time of 1:22.16
Janet Birkmyre, Madeleine Moore and Melanie Sneddon of Torq Performance came second with 1:26.42 and Tavistock Wheelers took third with their team of Victoria Lloyd-Walsh, Pippa McDougall and Kath Fletcher stopping the clock in 1:38.29.
With the Championships being based in the South West, there was plenty of competition from local clubs for bragging rights. Revo Racing took 1st position with Matt Slater, Liam Bard and Harry Edney coming 8th overall. 2nd SW Team and 11th overall were Mark Coombe, Mike Gratton and Jame Tribble from the promoting Mid Devon CC. 3rd SW Team, fastest Vet 40 and 12th overall were also from the Mid Devon; Tony Foster, Lee Sanderson and Mark Sanders
Mid Devon CC Race Team’s James Tribble had this to say after the event. “We were really pleased with the way we rode together as a team today. Our target was top 15, so to get 11th overall and 2nd SW team was just the icing on the cake. The course was tough with the rolling hills really breaking your rhythm. We had a few minor mishaps along the way but all in all the ride couldn’t have gone any better”
As usual – thanks to Ken Robertson for organising and mustering an army of volunteers to support the event.
